Health Care Debate
Many people are concerned they will lose control of their lives by having the government decide what treatments they need. Some have said that they will dictate what they can eat. Well, guess what? They have been dictating for years what foods we can eat by allowing big-agribusiness to cut corners by using cheap fillers, pesticides, herbicides and now, genetically modified (GM) foods.
Our food supply is what is making us sick! If the EPA considers herbicides and insecticides to be carcinogenic, is it any wonder why this may be causing more than 4 million cancer cases?
I believe that reform of our food supply to make it sustainable for all needs to come before there can be any kind of health reform that really works.
The food we eat today is the cause of the epidemic of obesity, chronic heart disease and diabetes.
When Pres. Obama talks about prevention, the only place to start is with the food we eat. Then, we can have a healthcare system that will be cost effective and work for all Americans. Less people will become chronically ill and have to rely on medications that only relieve the symptoms, but does not cure the disease.
Big agri-businesses need to be under the same strict scrutiny that the local organic farmers are subject to in order to have their food certified by the USDA.
